Charlottetown City Council has approved first and second reading of an amendment to the City’s traffic by-law that would extend the hours of the winter overnight parking ban.
The change would see the overnight parking ban go into effect at 11pm instead of 1am, and continue through to 6am.
Public Works Chair Terry Bernard has indicated it would give snow removal crews more time to clear the streets, meaning the job will get done faster and streets will be clear sooner.
The extended hours were implemented on a trial basis last year.
The bylaw amendment would still have to pass third reading next month.
