The federal and provincial governments are preparing to discuss how to divvy up the proceeds of legalized marijuana.
Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau is meeting Monday with PEI’s Allen Roach and all the Provincial Finance Ministers.
The talks will centre on the Liberal government proposal to impose a cannabis excise tax of one dollar per gram or 10 per cent of the final retail price, whichever is higher.
It’s expected to bring in as much as one billion dollars per year.
The provincial and territorial governments say they should get most of the funds because they’ll shoulder most — if not all — of the costs associated with making pot legal.
