WEDNESDAY RESULTS
The United States secured first place in the preliminary round with a 5-2 victory over Canada at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown. The Canadians will face South Korea in the semifinals later today. The Americans are three time defending champions and face Italy in the other semi.
William Nylander scored the decisive goal in the shootout to lift the Toronto Maple Leafs over the Calgary Flames 2-1 at Air Canada Centre. Toronto won for the third time in four games. Mark Giordano opened the scoring with a first period power-play goal for the Flames. Toronto’s Morgan Rielly responded in the second with his fourth of the season
Anaheim’s blanked Ottawa 3-0…the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.
Brad Gushue scored three in the second end and went on to beat Mike McEwen 8-3 tonight at the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials in Ottawa. Rachel Homan is on a roll, leading her team to a 10-7 victory over Casey Scheidegger.
A California woman has filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and battery against former Edmonton Eskimos star quarterback Warren Moon. Wendy Haskell, a former executive assistant to Moon at Sports 1 Marketing, alleges in the lawsuit that Moon required her to wear skimpy lingerie, share his bed during business trips and made unwanted sexual advances. Moon spent his entire C-F-L career with the Eskimos and won five consecutive Grey Cups from 1978-1982.
Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez is scheduled to resume throwing this week, almost three months after his 2017 season ended prematurely because of a sprained tendon and nagging blister on his middle finger. The blister issue limited him to eight starts in this year and led to four stints on the disabled list.
THURSDAY SCHEDULE
The Drummondville Voltigeurs pay a visit to Charlottetown for a Thursday night match up at 7 with your Charlottetown Islanders at the Eastlink Centre. It’s Student Night where all students get $3 tickets to the game with a Student ID. There’s also beverage specials for the 19 plus crowd and the Islanders will be giving away a tuition credit of up to $600 in cash tonight.
Miramichi is in Summerside tonight for gametime at 7 at Credit Union Place against the Western Capitals. Summerside is just one point behind Miramichi in their division standings.
Midget Triple A has Pownal playing Central at Cody Banks in Sherwood at 8:20.
The Montreal Canadiens will try and get back on the winning track tonight when they host the Calgary Flames. The Habs had their five-game winning streak snapped Tuesday night with a loss to the St. Louis Blues.
Elsewhere, the Winnipeg Jets are in Florida to face the Panthers…The Canucks look to extend their winning streak to four games tonight when they wrap up a three game homestand against the Philadelphia Flyers…and later, the Ottawa Senators take on the Kings in L-A.
Kevin Koe puts his perfect 6-and-0 record to the test this afternoon with a match-up against John Morris at the Roar of the Rings Olympic curling trials in Ottawa. On the women’s side, Chelsea Carey will try and maintain her undefeated record this afternoon when she faces Julie Tippin. Carey is 5-and-0.
