One PEI labour group says if violence against women is to be eliminated, the solution requires everyone to step up.
The PEI Federation of Labour says harassment and violence are all too common in workplaces and the culture that allows this to happen needs to change.
The Federation’s Vice-President for Women, Donna Dingwell, says we must end complicity and self-imposed silence, not just by reaching out to victims, but by calling out sexist and harassing behaviour when we see it happen.
Dingwell adds there’s also a need to recognize connections between gender-based violence and other forms of discrimination and violence that workers experience.
She adds that barriers and the risks of disclosure can be much greater for racialized women, Indigenous women, women with disabilities, trans and non-binary folk.
