The Charlottetown Islanders evening things on their three-game weekend road trip in Quebec with a 3-2 shootout win over the Quebec Remparts. Sam King and Sullivan Sparks scored in the penalty shot contest.
Keith Getson and Thomas Casey scored in regulation. Quebec tied it in the third. The win snaps a two game losing skid for the Isles who play in Shawinigan today. Matt Welsh made 31 saves.

The Summerside Western Capitals are hot. The Caps won their fifth in a row with their third shutout during that span with a 4-0 win over the South Shore Lumberjacks, the top team in the South Division.
Dominik Tmej recorded his third shutout this week with 43 saves.
TJ Shea picked up his league leading 20th goal and added two assists. He leads the MHL with 47 points. Shea is also on a 17 game point scoring streak.
Brodie MacAthur and Cameron Roberts both had four point games. The Caps are 12-9-1 and just three points behind second place Campbellton in the North.

The UPEI Panthers lost a heartbreaker, 5-4 at Saint Mary’s in the AUS. That’s five straight losses for the Panthers to end the first half. Calder Brooks scored the winner with just over three minutes left. Kameron Keilly had two for the Panthers. Filip Rydstrom and Cody Payne also scored. UPEI is 4-13-1 at the Christmas break.

The Montreal Canadiens made it five straight wins as they buried the Detroit Red Wings, 10-1. Paul Byron recorded his first career hat-trick.
Vancouver edged Toronto, 2-1 with a pair of first period goals and 35 saves from goalie Jacob Markstrom.
Tuukka Rask made 28 saves as Brad Marchand had a goal and assist as Boston blanked Philadelphia, 3-0.
Alex Ovechkin with his 19th goal helping Washington get by Columbus, 4-3.
Sidney Crosby had a goal and assist in Pittsburgh’s 5-1 win over Buffalo.
Patrick Maroon with the game winner as Edmonton shaded Calgary, 7-5.

Hometown favourite Rachel Homan will look to bounce back from her opening-draw loss at the Roar of the Rings Olympic trials as she takes on Julie Tippin in round-robin play in Ottawa. Homan dropped her first game yesterday to Chelsea Carey. The winner of the tournament will represent Canada at the Pyeongchang Olympics in February.
Both of Canada’s reigning Olympic champions opened their Roar of the Rings tournament with wins yesterday. They’ll be hoping to pad their lead atop the standings today. On the women’s side, Jennifer Jones plays Michelle Englot while Brad Jacobs takes on Kevin Koe Both games are in the morning draw at Canadian Tire Centre.

Charley Hoffman has the lead heading into the final round of the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Hoffman handled the blustery conditions yesterday for a five-shot lead today while Tiger Woods fell 10 shots behind. There are no Canadians in the 18-man field. —–
The top dogs in theNFC South face each other today when the Carolina Panthers visit Drew Brees and the Saints in New Orleans. Both teams are 8-and-3 but the Saints beat the Panthers in Charlotte earlier this season. The Atlanta Falcons are also in contention for the NFC South crown with a 7-and-4 record. They host the 9-and-2 Minnesota Vikings today.
