Mental health services for seniors in Kings County have been strengthened with a new team of community-based care professionals.
A Seniors’ Mental Health Resource Team is now operating in both Montague and Souris consisting of RN’s, LPN’s, social work and psychiatry.
The teams serve adults who are experiencing complex emotional, cognitive, functional or behavioral problems and provide clinic-based services and community outreach to clients in their homes, in community care, and in long-term care facilities.
Referrals to the Seniors Mental Health Resource Teams can be made by an individual; however, it is preferred that they be made whenever possible by a health care provider. The Kings County team has received six client referrals since it started operating earlier this month.
Similar teams have been operating in Queens and Prince Counties with 360 referrals made last year and another 160 since April.
