Buck Watts, the Speaker of the PEI Legislature, says that while no legislative rules were broken, he does have concerns about leaks of last week’s Capital Budget.
This week, the opposition raised concerns about tweets put out by the Liberal party during the Capital Budget’s delivery in the House, and an ad placed by the Liberals Saturday for their District 11 by-election candidate. They say that ad contained Capital Budget details, yet its deadline for submission would have been the day before the budget was tabled.
The Speaker took it under advisement, and then on Wednesday said no rules were broken, but the situation was troubling. He said that it appears clear that Capital Budget details were released to others outside of the House before the actual document was tabled in the legislature.
He says the lack of due process and disrespect to the House is troubling.
