A special event Wednesday night as the Canadian Red Cross presented its 2017 Humanitarian and Young Humanitarian Awards for Prince Edward Island.
The Humanitarian Award was presented posthumously to Tom DeBlois of Charlottetown. DeBlois was founding chair of both the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation and Queens Region Health and Community Services Board, and served on the hospital’s board of trustees. He was also involved in numerous other organizations.
The Young Humanitarian Award went to 18-year-old Lacey Koughan of Charlottetown, who has developed a brand, program and web site called 24STRONG where girls and young women can safely share experiences, and support each other.
