The Summerside Western Capitals pulled off their first win of the season in the Maritime Jr. Hockey League with a 3-2 effort in St. Stephen over the County Aces.
Austin Taylor scored on a shorthanded effort which tied the game 2-2 in the third. Morgan MacDonald with the game winner 11 minutes into the third.
TJ Shea gave the Caps a 1-0 lead in the first before the Ace went ahead in the second period.
The Caps have their home opener as they host Woodstock tonight at 7.00 at Credit Union Place after a 1-3 road trip.

The Moncton Wildcats dropped the winless Saint John Sea Dogs, 6-4 in the Q. The defending champs have four straight losses to begin the season. Cape Breton improved to 3-0 with a 4-3 win over Acadie Bathurst. The Islanders are in Moncton tonight.

Mitch Marner, William Nylander and Auston Matthews were among the goal scorers as Toronto doubled Detroit, 4-2 in NHL pre-season.
Montreal is 1-6 in exhibition with a 3-1 win over Florida. Paul Byron scored twice.

UPEI edged St. Thomas, 3-2 in pre-season women’s hockey. Sydnee Baker got the winner in the third.
In AUS soccer UPEI blanked Saint Mary’s, 2-0 in the women’s. SMU won the men’s game 2-0.

Masahiro Tanaka had a career high 15 strikeouts as the NY Yankees blanked the Toronto Blue Jay, 4-0.
The Yankees are 2 behind Boston in the A.L. East with two games left. The Red Sox lost 3-2 to Houston. The Astros reach 100 wins for the second time in their history. Alex Bergman homered and drove in all three runs.
Cleveland has 101 wins with a 10-1 rout of the Chicago White Sox.

The Charlottetown Islanders hope to continue on the winning track tonight in the Q with a game in Moncton. The Isles are coming off a 2-1 overtime victory in Saint John on Thursday as they improved to 1-2.
The Islanders have only been outscored 7-5 in three games, so far. They do need some more offense but the defense is fine.
