It’s the first day of school here in PEI…a day that will offer new experiences for a number of students as the Public Schools Branch rezoning plans take effect.
That rezoning means hundreds of students are attending different schools this year — some against their wishes, and there has been an appeal process in place.
Schools that had been underpopulated previously, now have more students,so drivers in those areas should be extra cautious because of the additional students in those areas.
The rezoning has obviously had an impact on bus routes and stops, so if you’re unsure, you can check the Public Schools Branch website for its bus stop search utility.
Keep in mind, there will be an added police presence today, especially in school zones, to help keep everyone safe.
Drivers keep a close eye out for school buses, and don’t pass them if they have stopped and have their flashing lights engaged.
