Four PEI forest firefighters are returning to British Columbia today to assist with the wildfire situation.
The request for assistance from the province came from the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre
In response, the province’s Department of Communities, Land and Environment will send a four-person initial attack crew.
The Island crew will be based out of the Prince George Fire Centre and is anticipated to be in British Columbia for up to three weeks.
Minister Robert Mitchell says this is the first time the department is sending an initial attack crew, meaning they will be participating in the first entry to some of the affected areas.
Mitchell applauds the firefighters and thanks them for willingly answering the call to help their fellow Canadians.
The latest report from the Government of British Columbia indicates that more than 1.2 million hectares has been burned as a result of the ongoing forest fires.
