The Chicago Cubs used a Javier Baez 2-run homer in the 8th to sink the Toronto Blue Jays, 7-5. Clutch hitting Ryan Goins had put the Jays to within a run with his 2-run hit in the top of the 8th.
Toronto is 3 out in the wild card.
The Boston Red Sox rallied with 4 runs in the 7th after giving up 4 in the top of the inning on their way to a 9-6 victory over the New York Yankees. Mitch Moreland capped the inning with a 2-run single. The Red Sox have won 13 of 15 and are 5 up on the Yankees.
The Los Angeles Dodgers lead MLB with an 88-34 record with an 8-5 win facing Detroit. The Dodgers also acquired veteran outfielder Curtis Granderson from the NY Mets in a trade.
