PC Opposition Leader Jamie Fox, and Fisheries and Agriculture Critic Colin LaVie have written to both Federal Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Provincial Minister Alan McIsaac in support of local Island beef and dairy producers.
Fox says local beef producers want to expand herds and increase the profitability and viability of the beef industry on the Island.
The opposition is calling for Minister McIsaac to ensure ongoing discussions around the next five-year agricultural funding agreement with the federal government reflects the priorities set out by the PEI Cattle Producers and the Maritime Beef Council.
Lavie says their correspondence to Minister MacAulay concerns the recently announced inequitable distribution of the quota of European cheese import licenses under the CETA agreement.
