The Charlottetown Fire Department is getting some praise for its quick action in rescuing a couple who were stranded in the middle of the Charlottetown Harbour after sailing out from Peakes Wharf on Friday afternoon.
Wade and Kim Martell were on board their boat called “Escape” when it began taking on water in Holland’s Cove.
The boat had slowed down and Wade Martell noticed a pump was going and there was a blown water hose.
They made a 9-1-1 call just after 2.30 and the Charlottetown Fire Department had a crew in the water within 10 minutes who escorted the boat back to the wharf.
Quartermaster Marine pulled the boat from the water once it arrived. It will be repaired.
The Martell’s and their dog were safe on arrival.
