At the Canada Games today, here are some of the highlights for PEI.
The baseball team beat Newfoundland and Labrador 8-2
The Men’s Softball lost 9-1 to Newfoundland and Labrador, and 10-1 to Quebec. They play Saskatchewan Wednesday.
The Women’s Basketball team lost 89-79 to Newfoundland and Labrador.
In Mountain Bike, PEI had a 6th place team finish in the women’s relay.
In Beach Volleyball, the women lost to Manitoba, while the men fell to Quebec. On Wednesday, the women play NB and the men face Yukon.
The women’s Soccer team was blanked by Quebec 7-0. On Wednesday, they play BC in the medal round.
In Athletics, Bailey Smith and Damon MacDonald each qualified for the B Final in 200m.
The men’s basketball team is back on the hard court Wednesday, facing Yukon in a placing game.
Justin Smoak hit his 31st homer to help lift the Toronto Blue Jays to an 8-4 win over the White Sox in Chicago on Tuesday. Baltimore beat Kansas City 7-2, while Detroit edged N.Y. Yankees 4-3 and Boston outslugged Cleveland 12-10
There’s a special Wednesday evening card at Red Shores in Summerside. The first of 13-dashes gets underway at 7 P.M. with the top pacers lining up in race 12.
Red Shores and the PEI Harness Racing Industry Association have announced a change to the Old Home Week race schedule.
There will be no live harness racing program on Thursday afternoon August 17th. The Atlantic Sires Stakes for two year-old pacing fillies will move to the Thursday evening program. Post time is 7pm.Roger Federer will compete in Montreal for the first time in six years. The Swiss superstar confirmed today that he will play in the Rogers Cup next week. The 35-year-old will be seeking his third Rogers Cup title, but first in Montreal. He won the tournament in Toronto in 2004 and 2006.
