At the Canada Games, Island athletes competed in the Triathlon Monday. The women were on the course as it consisted of a 750-metre swim, a 20-kilometre bike and a five-kilometre run.
Tatiana Kelly completed the course in 1:17:54.20 and was the first Islander to finish. Bridget Keedwell (1:18:52.10) and Siobhan Bergin (1:26:14.70) followed her.
Jeremy Neuffer was the first of the Island’s men to finish, followed by Pieter VanLeeuwen (1:12:47.50) and Nick Robertson.

The rowers were involved in only one event Monday — the single scull male. Josh Tweel finished fifth in his heat and then advanced to the Repechage stage.
The men’s softball team scored a decisive 11-7 win over Alberta, and an 11-4 los to Ontario. Their record is 3-3 and they play Newfoundland and Quebec Tuesday.
The Women’s basketball squad lost a heartbreaker in the last 2 seconds 67-65 to Nova Scotia. The Men lost 78-65. The team plays a placing game on Wednesday versus Yukon.
A strong showing for Island athletes in track and field with multiple events starting Monday.
In Beach Volleyball, the men lost to NB, and play Que today. The women beat NB, and now play Manitoba.
Our women’s soccer team put forth a solid effort against prohibitive favorite Ontario, losing by a score of 3-0.
And in baseball, PEI lost 10-4 to Manitoba to fall to 1-3 overall. They play Newfoundland next.
The Chicago White Sox rallied from a six-run deficit to beat Toronto 7-6. Baltimore edged Kansas City 2-1; the Yankees beat Detroit 7-3; and Boston dumped Cleveland 6-2
With their title drought over, the Chicago Cubs want their most notorious fan to share in their good fortune. The Cubs are giving a World Series ring to Steve Bartman, the fan who deflected a foul ball that might have landed in left-fielder Moises Alou’s glove in the 2003 N-L-C-S. Bartman was harassed after the incident and has avoided the spotlight since.
Hockey PEI has confirmed that the South Side Lynx have been selected as the host for the 2018 Maritime Hockey North Junior C Hockey Championships. The Lynx will host the event at the South Shore Actiplex in Crapaud from April 4-8, 2018.
