A Souris area man was fined $575 Sunday after leaving his dog in a vehicle for over an hour in the parking lot of the Sea Glass festival in Souris.
The dog was released from the vehicle by the RCMP once they arrived on scene, and several attempts by festival staff to locate the dog’s owner were unsuccessful. Police say the dog was beginning to show signs of distress and immediately got out of the vehicle once it was able to.
Festival staff were able to keep the dog safe until the owner arrived back at the vehicle.
The man was fined under the new Animal Welfare Act, and given a future court date if he decides to dispute the matter.
