Strong surf conditions Saturday afternoon on the north shore had tragic results.
A 52-year old New Brunswick man was pulled out by the current in the waters off St. Margarets, and unfortunately the man could not be reached and drowned.
Surf conditions were extreme at the time and there was a strong rip current, which police say hindered their ability to reach the man.
Police responded to the call at about 5:00 p.m., and were assisted by Island EMS, Souris Fire department and a local fisherman from Naufrage Harbour.
