A new trotting mark was set at Red Shores in Summerside on Friday night as Osprey Impact and driver Walter Cheverie won the Andrew Perry Memorial Trot in 1.57/2. That broke Thunderaway’s record of 1.58/1 set in 2015.
Marc Campbell drove three winners on the program including Filly Forty Seven in 1.55/4 in the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three year old pacing fillies.

Hot Deuce with Walter Cheverie driving is the 5-2 favourite. Do Over Hanover is listed as 3-1 with Marc Campbell behind. It’s an eight horse field in the final that goes for $22,000.
Forever Paradise has the rail followed by Do Over Hanover, Allstar Seelster, Junebugs Baby, Invictus Hanover, Good Friday Three, Hot Deuce and Crombie A in the 16th tonight. The Governor’s Plate Consolation and the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three year old pacing colts also on the program.

Tim Yorke fired an opening round 68 in the PEI Amateur Golf Championship at Stanhope. The Kensington resident leads Robert Shaw by three. Shaw had a 71. Both are in the mid-amateur division. Flora Thompson had a 79 to lead the women’s division by one on Lexi McKay.
Martin O`Brien and Jeremy Stevenson tied for the lead in the amateur at 72. Jeff Cooke leads the men’s senior division at 73.
The women’s senior led by Chris MacLauchlan with a 79.
Ron Garrett and Mel Bernard lead the men’s super senior at 76. Lorraine MacDonald with the lead in the women’s super senior after a 97.

The Toronto Blue Jays began the post All-Star break with a 7-2 win in Detroit as Aaron Sanchez outduelled Justin Verlander. For Sanchez his first win in 2017 coming on a string of blister-related problems. Steve Pearce and Jose Bautista homered. Bautista had two RBI’s for the night and moves into a 3rd place tie with George Bell on the Jays all-time list with 740 RBI’s.
Boston came back for a 5-4 win over the Yankees. The Red Sox scored two runs in the 9th on a pair of infield hits and an error. Andrew Benitendi’s bases loaded walk gave Boston the win.
The Chicago Cubs blew an 8 run lead but managed to edge the Baltimore Orioles, 9-8 on Addison Russell’s home run in the 9th.
The Cubs hits four home runs early before Baltimore rallied.
Tampa Bay got by the Los Angeles Angels, 2-1.
