Use of Victoria Park’s cycling lane has caused great confusion this week and the City of Charlottetown’s Parks and Recreation Department wants to clear that up.
The Cycling Lane in Victoria Park is designated for bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, skateboards, inline skates and other self-propelled wheeling devices.
For safety reasons walkers and runners, including those pushing a stroller or walking a pet, are not permitted on the cycling lane.
However, the only scenario where it’s okay for a walker to be on the cycling lane, would be in the case of a parent or guardian providing assistance alongside a young cyclist.
The Public Works Department will be painting a center line on the newly paved section of the Victoria Park Cycling Lane next week to help control the traffic flow and allow users the appropriate space to travel both directions.
