The tourism industry is seeing a major increase in the number of new licenses for accommodations compared to 2016.
201 new licenses have been issued since the New Year, nearly four times the number issued over the same period last year.
Much of the increase comes from homeowners listing on sites like Airbnb and VRBO who are required to have their properties licensed and inspected just like other accommodations.
Minister of Economic Development and Tourism Heath MacDonald says he welcomes the increased capacity and variety the new operators bring to the Island, especially considering the record setting pace of the tourism industry over the last number of years.
