The tall ship Esmeralda arrived in Charlottetown this morning and will be here ’til Friday evening.
The vessel is berthed at Queen’s Wharf and will be open for deck tours this afternoon 2 – 6 and then again Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Since her commissioning, Esmeralda has served as a training ship for the Chilean Navy. She has visited more than 300 ports worldwide acting as a floating embassy for Chile.
Esmeralda is a steel-hulled four-masted barquentine tall ship of the Chilean Navy.
Amnesty International says the Esmeralda was used as a torture ship with up to 100 political prisoners who were subjected to hideous treatment between 1973 and 1980.
