The Mayor of Souris has resigned suddenly.
David MacDonald stepped down for the Mayor’s chair after a special meeting was held where the town’s CAO and Council accepted his official resignation.
MacDonald’s decision came just days after a email exchange between a former resident and the Mayor concerning broken glass found on the beach in Souris.
Some vicious words were said to have been exchanged between the Mayor and former resident who now lives in British Columbia.
Council stated that the comments used by MacDonald were not representative of the Town.
The former resident involved is Mike MacDonald who has received an apology by the Town.
Deputy Mayor Denis Thibodeau is acting as the interim mayor.
Council meets on Monday, July 10th and will likely set a byelection date for the Mayor’s job.
