A necropsy was conducted in P-E-I Thursday on one of six dead North Atlantic right whales spotted floating in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.
Marine mammal experts are hoping to determine what caused the death of the endangered mammals.
The Canadian Coast Guard and federal fisheries officials beached the whale in Norway, and the Marine Animal Response Society says they hope to bring at least one more of the whales ashore for examination.
Officials want to determine if boat strikes, fishing gear or a possible toxic algal bloom could be to blame for the deaths.
