A record night Thursday for Marc Campbell and Freddie at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Freddie obliterated the overall track trotting record in this week’s edition of the Open trot with a 1:56.3 victory for trainer-driver Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Charlottetown. It is the third time Campbell set the overall track trotting record.

The 2017 Hockey PEI Awards were presented at the Rodd Royalty Inn Thursday evening.
The big winners were the Atlantic Champion Mid Isle Midget AAA Wildcats named Team of the Year. Their goaltender Maggie Johnston won the Female Player of the Year. The Matrix won the Atlantic title with a 2-0 win in the final and a trip Esso Nationals.
Dixon MacLeod of the Mid Isle Matrix Bantam AAA’s won Male Player of the Year. He scored 22 goals and had 47 points in 30 games coming off a broken leg the year previous.

The Arizona Coyotes and coach Dave Tippett have mutually agreed to part ways after eight seasons. The 55-year-old Tippett led the Coyotes through four years of being run by the N-H-L after the team went into bankruptcy and took the Coyotes to the 2012 Western Conference Finals. He went 282-257-and-83 in the desert.

The New Jersey Devils will have the top pick tonight as the N-H-L draft gets underway in Chicago. The Vancouver Canucks are the first Canadian team to pick. They’ll select fifth. Calgary goes next with the 16th pick followed by Toronto at 17. Edmonton selects 22nd overall, Winnipeg goes 24th, Montreal gets the 25th pick and Ottawa has the 28th selection.
