The province says a new law, the Health Information Act, will strengthen the protection of Islanders’ personal health information.
It takes effect July 1st, and governs the collection, use, and disclosure of personal health information by all PEI health care providers.
Health and Wellness Minister Robert Henderson says the new law will help balance the protection of information, with the need for it to flow. The health sector relies on the flow of information in order to diagnose, treat, and care for Islanders.
Officials say the new legislation strikes that balance with uniform requirements that will be put in place.
