18-year-old Cole Trevor Crane has been sentenced to 30 days in jail for assaulting a referee during a game in which he was playing this past March.
Crane punched a referee twice in the face as he was being escorted off the ice after officials broke up a fight during the midget double-A Provincials championship game.
Chief Provincial Court Judge Nancy Orrin handing down the sentence, sais that referees need to be protected, and she ordered Crane to write an apology to the referee, and keep away from him.
Crane will serve the sentence on an intermittent basis, allowing him to work at a summer job. He is also on probation for 18 months.
