Work on two new nursing homes on the Island is set to start next week.
The province says construction will begin on the manors for Montague and Tyne Valley.
The province formally announced the projects two years ago.
The government’s most recent estimate is for the new buildings to cost a total of 21 million dollars
Just over 12 million dollars is coming from the federal government for the projects.
Part of the deal of signing the new Health Accord with Ottawa was additional money would be available for mental health and long-term care as part of the provincial negotiations. That’s according to an official in the Premier’s office.
The province will spend nearly $11-million the new 49-bed Riverview Manor in Montague and the 24-bed Tyne Valley manor.
The funding is coming from the capital budget.
