PEI’s Education, Early Learning and Culture Minister says the signing of a $7.5 billion federal funding framework for new investments in early learning and childcare is great news for Island children and families.
Minister Doug Currie says the agreement signed Monday will have significant benefits for 0 to 4 year-olds and the strategic growth of our early childhood sector.
Federal, provincial, and territorial ministers signed the historic agreement in Ottawa on a common framework to create and support more high quality, affordable and flexible child care across the country, and more support for children more in need.
The governments of Canada and Prince Edward Island led the development of the framework that will receive federal funding over the next 11 years.
The framework encourages accountability by requiring provinces and territories to set targets, identify indicators, collect data and report annually on their progress.
